Practice Areas:  Mr. Verbrugge's practice includes business and commercial litigation, commercial foreclosure law, commerical lease disputes, and bankruptcy law.

Mr. Verbrugge's federal bankruptcy practice includes representing parties (both debtors and creditors) involved in a wide variety of bankruptcy matters including fraudulent transfer, preference, lien priority, equitable subordination, nondischargeability, claim objections/allowance, automatic stay, lease assumption and rejection, and removal-remand-transfer matters.  He has been trial attorney in numerous contested evidentiary hearings and adversary proceedings in federal bankruptcy court.  Mr. Verbrugge's federal bankruptcy practice also focuses on contested disclosure statement and plan confirmation proceedings, and other disputed matters arising during the course of a Chapter 11 reorganization case.

Mr. Verbrugge's state court practice includes commercial real estate foreclosures, receiverships, lender liability, commercial lease disputes, contract and collections matters.  He has represented large and medium sized real estate opportunity and private capital funds holding both senior and junior liens in state court commercial real estate foreclosure actions.  Mr. Verbrugge has represented parties in interest in real estate litigation, commercial lease disputes, and summary possession actions.  Mr. Verbrugge's practice includes representing parties to business disputes, including partnership disputes and accountings, disputes relating to limited liability company ownership and management, valuation of business assets, asset purchase agreements, and business torts.  Mr. Verbrugge's practice also includes construction law and trust litigation.

Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Verbrugge served as a Judge Advocate in the United States Marine Corps.  During his time as a Judge Advocate, Mr. Verbrugge served as a trial defense counsel and successfully handled numerous contested bench and jury panel trials.  Mr. Verbrugge also served as a U.S.-Japan Status of Forces Agreement liaison officer and as an official trial observer in Japan.  Before joining WCV, Mr. Verbrugge was an associate in the litigation department of a large Honolulu law firm.

Bar Admission:  Born Seoul, Korea, April 15, 1971; admitted to bar, 1996, Iowa (inactive); 2000, Hawaii, U.S. District Court, District of Hawaii; U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court. 

Education: Cornell College (B.S.S., Economics, Philosophy, Political Science, cum laude, 1993); University of Iowa College of Law (J.D., with distinction, 1996).  Member, Iowa Law Review. 

Membership: Hawaii State Bar Association, Hawaii Bankruptcy Bar Association, Collection Law Section of the Hawaii State Bar Association, American Bar Association, Business Law Section of the American Bar Association, and American Bankruptcy Institute.
